The three blog posts I have in draft format are going to have to wait one more day. Getting off the phone with Scott of SoCal Guerrilla Gardening has that effect; “now I’m defiant.” Music to my ears.
I’ve had the pleasure to garden and be defiant with Scott. In April he helped beautify my little shit hole neighborhood that is Wrigley in Long Beach, CA. In just a couple of hours, a handful of enthusiastic novel guerrilla gardeners installed two succulent gardens in medians on Willow. It took the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency $600,000.00 to do the same on Pacific Avenue. I kid you not.
It was so much fun in April that we’re doing it again. Here’s the deal:
When: Sunday, November 8; 9A-12P
Show up at: 1744 Orange Avenue
Long Beach (in the hood)
Scott once again is donating all the plants and tools for the dig. Awesomeness! You should bring gloves and a gallon of water (for the newly planted garden) would be much appreciated.
Many have RSVP’d and the list of attendees is quite impressive but don’t come for the fanfare. Come to make a difference with like minded individuals.
“It has to start somewhere. It has to start sometime. What better place than here. What better time than now. All hell can’t stop us now.”
Before I broke bread with Tom Morello at the Rainbow I marched with Rage at the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles. Ah, youth.
The Battle of Mexico City-Guerrilla Radio. Enjoy!
Wow, $600,000? Atlantic looks great, but so do the GG sites for much less.
I RSVP’d with Scott and I’ll bring some 5 gallon water containers. I hope we have better luck than I did planting succulents along Broadway. After a month they were stomped on so much I pulled them up and moved them to my office. The Broadway Corridor Business Association also put in some drought resistant plants and trees and they have been destoyed.
Orange Avenue needs some sprucing up and it looks like a great site.
