I am obsessed with Iron Fist Clothing and these Sugar Frosted heels are my new favorite shoes. They’re super cute and versatile too! Here are the deets:

  • sugar skull print
  • velvet ribbon bow with pink contrast stitching
  • silver skull and rose charms
  • peep toe
  • shorter heel than the Iron Fist platform heel
  • all man made materials – vegan

I’ve been rocking these shoes to work lately; paired with the Editor Pant by Express and Gap’s Favorite Long-Sleeved T. I purchased my kicks from Punk.com for a mere $22.99. Go get a pair!

New Year. New Look. More Stuff.

by Adriana on January 1, 2011

Welcome to the new home of Anarchy in the Garden – Loud, punk rock fueled, always DIY gardening and home economics hub for the domestic demolitionist. I’ve eliminated the fluff and added more categories. Check em’ out!

Grow – You won’t find begonia growing tips here but you will find info on how to successfully grow your own food in the city. I garden in the only state that matters, California; more specifically Long Beach, CA. That’s USDA zone 10b and Sunset zone 22 for you academic types.

Home Ec – Working 9 to 5 can blow and dinner doesn’t have to be a Del Taco burrito. I’ll share recipes, always vegan or vegetarian, using seasonal homegrown produce. You’ll also find a healthy dose of cleaning tips, craft projects, and much more!

Style – I love Target as much as anyone but dressing head to toe in Merona is not cute. Go ahead, hold down that corporate gig and rock it pretty. I’ll let you in on unique and affordable fashion finds.

Pets – They’re the next best thing to kids! From doggie wear to homemade treats or just gratuitous pictures of my mutts. You’ll find everything pet related here.

Holidays – Handmade Valentine’s Day cards, Mother’s Day bouquets made from locally grown flowers, let’s celebrate! Homemade style.

Community – From volunteer opportunities and gardening workshops to Social Distortion tour dates. An event calendar filled with fun things to do around town.

Lastly, I promise to cut out the suck (aka self-promotion), share more useful information and always keep it punk.

Speaking of Social Distortion, check out their first-ever TV appearance on Jimmy Kimmel. They’ll be performing in So. CA this month!

Yours in Anarchy,
Adriana

My husband is rad on a multitude of levels. Indulge me as I count the ways. He’s got a giant brain, BA in Philosophy and a JD. His anniversary and birthday cards make my heart of steal weep, he’s a loving father to our two fur-kids and he loves his mom. Did I mention he used to sing in a punk band?

What I really love and appreciate about Hector is that he doesn’t shy away from any chores. From sweeping the tumbleweed of dog hair that accumulates on our hard wood floors to shoveling compost into the raised garden beds he built for me. The latter activity requires a strong, well-fitting work glove.

Recently Hector ditched the $3.97 latex dipped gloves from the local big box retailer in favor of quality work gloves – Manswork Heavy Duty Washable Work Gloves by Womanswork. Here’s what he thinks of the gloves.

Father’s Day is in June. Grab a pair for your favorite dude!

Back in Black

by Adriana on June 20, 2009

Ethel Gloves knows the way to my heart. They’ve designed a chic functional black glove that even I will wear.  Unless I’m picking up garbage in the LA River I don’t wear gardening gloves. Most gloves resemble mittens; bulky, uncomfortable and fug.

Ethel Gloves are the stark opposite. Made of two-way stretch fabric the fit reminds me of my favorite Kiss t-shirt but for my hands. For added protection Ethel Gloves features an extended cuff. Perfect for tattoo coverage.

Rocking Ethel 225x300 Back in Black

I'm smiling with my eyes

Although not advertised, Ethel Gloves are vegan. They’re made of durable synthetic materials with a rubberized grip and reinforced fingertips. I’m constantly blocking and rolling. Hands deep in sopping soil, it takes a while before my hands actually feel wet. Awesome! I like to keep it cute but I can’t prance around in a white dress everyday. These black ‘Gala’ gloves make me want to simultaneously pogo and kick powdery mildew‘s ass.

I don’t review products often but when I do I put them through the rigmarole. From guerrilla gardening to transplanting these gloves get the job done.
